From Open Mic to Broadcast: How Comedians and Series Creators Get Their Work on TV

A comedian with a taped special and a series creator with a finished pilot are solving the same problem from two different angles: both have real, finished work, and neither has a reliable way to get it in front of an audience that isn't an algorithm. A special gets cut into clips and hopes one goes somewhere. A pilot gets pitched to network after network and, more often than not, never airs anywhere at all.

inDtv® treats both the same way it treats a finished music video or a finished film: as work that's ready to be evaluated for broadcast, not reworked. A comedian with a finished stand-up special submits it through inDspotlight's process, and if it's accepted, it airs as part of the network's actual schedule, a real time slot instead of a clip competing for attention in a feed. A series creator, whether the project is a sitcom, a game show, a dramedy, or a drama, goes through the identical process: submit the finished pilot or project, get it reviewed for broadcast fit, and get a real slot in the lineup if it's accepted.

Neither path involves inDtv® producing or reshaping the work. The special stays the special. The pilot stays the pilot. What the network is actually offering is the review and, if it clears that bar, the air date, the part that's historically been the hardest thing for a comedian or a series creator to get on their own.

There's an interview side to this too. "inDspotlight NOW" gives comedians and series creators the same access it gives musicians and filmmakers: a chance to talk about the work directly, as part of the network's own original programming, whether or not that project has a slot elsewhere on the schedule yet.

inDtv® is preparing to launch on Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, and Samsung TV Plus. For a comedian or a series creator with finished work sitting on a drive, that's not a hypothetical future audience. It's a specific list of places the work could actually air.
